Week of September 7th-10th

Math- Decimals: place value, equivalent, ordering and comparing, adding and subtracting.  Enrichment with problem solving. 

Spelling- no unit this week.

English- Continue Unit 2 on Nouns/Pronouns, will begin to implemnt multi-sensory grammar. 

Reading- Continue short stories in class, continue skill building. 

Library Reading information:  students should choose a book to read for the month of September and then take the A/R quiz for a grade.  Since we do not do written book reports in 5th grade, the students are expected to read a book every month and take an A/R quiz.  These grades will be used as daily grades, but not dropped.  If a student takes a quiz and does not do well, he or she may read another book is time permits and take a quiz to replace that grade.  I will also use at least 1 extra Library A/R book as extra credit each 9 weeks if students choose to read other books. 

Science- Begin unit on plants and photosynthesis.

Social Studies- Begin unit on the arrival of the first Americans in the Western Hemisphere.

Writing- Journal writing, fall peoms and creative stories.

Religion, Spanish, etc.- see teacher websites.

I am definately looking into field trips.  If you have any ideas, please continue to forward these to me.
